RESCUE POD-8-AVIATION… designed for and selected by the United States Coast Guard as their new standard, light weight, air-droppable 8-person capacity search and rescue Life Raft, is now available in a Marine configuration to owners of recreational vessels.

The Aviation version is equipped with the Toroidal Stability Device ( TSD), while the Marine configuration has the same ballast pockets we provide on our USCG Approved/SOLAS Life Rafts. To save additional weight, the Marine version is built from the same 9 oz. per square yard urethane coated nylon buoyancy chamber material as the Coast Guard's Aviation Rescue Pod. We still use the same inflation system, double-taped overlap seams, and construction techniques as on our USCG Approved Life Rafts.
The RESCUE POD-8 supports eight people and is similar to our 4-person capacity RESCUE POD-4. Its extra large diameter main tube (15 inches) provides over 200 pounds of buoyancy per person with Inner-Sleeves providing complete redundancy in the event of damage. The double layer inflatable canopy design is the same as used on the one-person Life Rafts we manufacture for fighter pilots of the United States Navy and Air Force. This canopy design provides better hypothermia protection than the single layer canopy used on most standard Life Rafts.
An Inflatable Floor is available as an option and provides separation from any cold water that may be in the raft. The bright yellow outer layer fabric is highly visible to searchers while the black inner layer reduces the potential for seasickness.
Upon inflation of the RESCUE POD-8, the canopy remains furled around the top of the buoyancy tube until needed. This allows for easier boarding from either the water, at any of the eight boarding ladders, or directly from your vessel. Once in the POD, occupants can immediately inflate the canopy using integral CO2 inflators.
The RESCUE POD-8 is an affordable way to provide emergency flotation for eight people in near-coastal waters. Its standard equipment meets Coast Guard requirements for coastwise service Life Rafts. We recommend that you equip a separate "Abandon Ship Bag" with additional items appropriate to the area in which you operate your vessel.
The RESCUE POD-8 is available in either Soft Valise or Fiberglass Container with optional anodized marine-grade aluminum Deck Mounting Cradle and USCG Approved Hydrostatic Release.
